Sovereign State

Sovereignty is the claim to be the ultimate political authority. Well, problems that will come with the sovereign state are-

1] Internal and external divides- state has absolute power within its territory. It has the legitimate power. However globalization is given a threat to this internal and external sovereignty. By globalization we means government structures be more transparent. Even countries like USA, Germany, Japan etc, find it difficult to have a control over the global economy.

Problems of sovereignty mainly comes from external, because not state has the ability to control the global economy.

2] Internally- states faces certain problems within their own territories, e.g. in certain parts of India, like Jammu and Kashmir etc do not accept the national policy of India. Jammu and Kashmir or Manipur want separate nation state from India.

Increase transnational globalization increases transnationalism. Globalization is increasing interdependence, ideas, through media. The other problem of transnationalism is terrorism. Terrorism has become transnational. This has created problems of national identity.

3] Identity- religious identity may connect the people- Muslims. Transnationalism leads to the problems of identification, e.g. 80% of terrorists caught in Jammu and Kashmir are foreigners. Thus it is difficult to identify national identity due to transnationalism. Globalization breaks national identity.

4] Just and unjust- major problems coming in to just and unjust justice given to its citizens. States cannot kill its citizens in the name of sovereignty.

5] Real sovereign state- today economically powerful states are considered as real sovereign states. More economic powerful states need not be worry over their military security. Thus those who control global economy to some extent like USA are more sovereign than countries like Iran and Pakistan. 

New concepts of sovereignty-

Third world states and poor economic states were never absolutely sovereign, because they are always dependent on economically powerful states. There is relative sovereignty.

1] Retreat of the states- redefinition of state and sovereignty. Sovereignty has undergone a process of readjustment reflecting the differing terms of engagement between its internal and external dimensions. Earlier we had state and sovereignty but now we have state sovereignty and G.

2] Control- globalization requires the state to define itself. Today state cannot talk of control. It can talk only about authority because transnational and interdependence.

3] Territoriality- today states can not control over their territoriality. It cannot control the boundaries that being penetrated due to media, communication, technology, and transportation facilities (Thompson). 
 
 
 What really constitutes sovereignty-?

Effective economic control_______ a country which has control over its economy is said to be a real sovereign today. China has effectively control over its economy, therefore it is more effective. It has redefined its economy. It has redefined its sovereignty and is one of the most successful states in redefining its economy. Thus sovereignty is a modification of the older behaviors and readjustment with the ongoing process.

We can conclude that most economic powerful state in the world is most sovereign state i.e. USA and previous definition and concept of sovereignty has been changed because of globalization.
